Larry Gordon

Lynn Gordon (Marcovitz)

Summary of your bio over past 50 years: After high school I attended College Park for one semester and then transferred to Towson and majored in Business. Upon graduation I obtained a position at a local CPA firm. I was the first woman they hired, so I was incredibly happy when I passed the CPA exam on my first try. The firm had 25 men as there were very few women in public accounting at that time. I did not take the traditional auditing route as the firm was heavily involved in preparing the financial portion for real estate syndications, i.e., financial projections for investment purposes. I realized I enjoyed working in the “future” rather than auditing in the “past”. The work was so much more creative. I worked for accounting firms in Maryland, California, and Pennsylvania for 33 years predominantly in consulting. I also did a short stint as the VP of Finance for a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) developer, a nursing home as the VP of development, until my current position as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for Erickson Senior Living – a large-scale developer of CCRCs in 12 states. In 1992, I married Bob Gordon (Pikesville HS) and we adopted our daughter in 2000. My husband and I separated in 2012 but remained very close and unfortunately, he passed away in 2019. My daughter has a very dynamic personality and she has found the perfect profession for her. She is a natural salesperson and also works at an Erickson Senior Living community in Philadelphia. She has been highly successful in whatever she takes on. For me, I really don’t know when I will retire. My position at Erickson is particularly challenging and rewarding. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, travelling, live theater, book club, and have been entertaining frequently at my home as my fantasy career has always been catering. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion!

I live in Lutherville which actually feels, like new territory. so lots of big adjustments. Im extremely lucky that both parents are living and don't know any peers who share in that. I have to be creative to fill my life since Im mostly stuck at home and can't even talk a lot due to pain. I enjoy puzzles, npr, tv and movies, books, especially 19 th century and other classics, online book clubs, seeing family and friends when I can. Feeling very nostalgic and fond of each and every one of you! But if I don't remember who you are, don't take it personally, my memory is not great these days! 💕

Summary of your bio over past 50 years: While studying computer science at UMBC, I got into a work/study program and started working at Social Security headquarters. After I graduated, they hired me permanently and I spent my entire career there. I started at a systems analyst and retired as a senior program manager. I met my husband, Skip, there and we’ve been married 41 years. Skip and I had a mutual love of sailing. We spent 20 years exploring the Chesapeake Bay. I retired early so we could go cruising on our sailboat. For most of 5 years, we cruised the east coast, spending winters in the Bahamas and sailing up to Maine. It was quite the life! After those adventures, we ended up living in Florida where we just enjoy life, music and world traveling.
